WHERE IT ALL BEGAN

My Sliding Doors Moment

As a young girl, I was always surrounded by clothes, fabrics, and accessories. We often travelled to Italy - the birthplace of my parents, where we lived for a period during my youth. This is where my love for all things creative expression with what we wear begun. I have such vivid and fond memories of Italy. The beautiful boutiques and shop windows I would gaze at for days on end if given the chance. The men and women always dressed so impeccably – never a hair out of place! Everything they wore - from head to toe - just flowed with such effortless flair. Colours and fabrics rarely seen in stores here at the time were everywhere and so enticing. The men and women carried themselves with such poise and confidence. My mother, who is now well into her 80s still dresses immaculately, colour coordinated and stylish, no matter what her day has in store. Such an elegant woman and always well put together.

When I was a child, my late godmother would make most of our clothes, particularly for special events and functions. The way we presented ourselves, whether heading to church on a Sunday or simply going out to visit relatives, was always so important to our mum. I realise now what a gift this was. She believed we showed a sense of true pride when dressed well. This is something I completely agree with and remember every time I work with an incredible woman to bring her style to life. I remember a dress my godmother made me for my year 12 formal. A white halter neck with fine strands of beads and pearls around the neckline – there was nothing like it! I was truly original and having such a beautifully made garment to wear that fitted me so perfectly made me feel confident. I was initially a little embarrassed to be dressed so differently but now I see how magical this was.

I want to bring the same kind of magic to as many women as I can, no matter her age, size, confidence, or relationship with personal style.
